Hi LK2, Several comments on your post: 1.) The page that you link to contains this quote: "CBOE's Volatility Index, known by its ticker symbol VIX. VIX, introduced by CBOE in 1993" 2.) The data prior to that is back-calculated - i.e. it wasn't available to investors at that time. That may skew its reliability some. 3.) Regardless, you really need to go back to the late 60's / early 70's to see a long-term bear market anyways. Glad to see people are reading my stuff closely! Chip stockcharts.com P.S.
