interesting "conclusions" from stratfor, indeed. Maybe they're jealous of debka getting all the bogus "scoops" lately.

I see three possible scenarios:

1) The terrorists on the pilot boat fired an explosive projectile into the tanker that was cleverly timed to explode immediately after penetration, thus blowing the ship's hull outward. Recall that during the latter phase of the Iran-Iraq war, the desperate Iraqis fired a lot of missiles into oil tankers. As best I recall, most of them exploded harmlessly way inside the tanker where there was no oxygen to let the oil ignite. The only damage was a little round hole. But what would happen if the explosion was just inside the hull? I suspect that could cause the kind of damage and fire that hit the French tanker.

2) The dastardly French had an accident and blamed it on "terrorism".

3) Captain Hazelwood was piloting the tanker and he dropped a lit cigar into one of the tanks. <g>

BTW, Stratfor is already back-peddling on its earlier piece...
