Yes, it is very sad, indeed...

It certainly seems like Palestinians are fighting to do harm to Israel rather than doing good to "Palestine", and this article supports this view.

If I may offer a theory, perhaps this is a result of long periods under occupation and oppression, where a nation may not be able to see beyond "getting back" to their oppressors. Such short-sightedness is of course counterproductive to what should be their real goal (i.e. establishment of a Palestinian state) but the need for revenge, I guess, is a powerful emotion.

It is very sad, indeed. There really does not seem to be a clear way out of the current self-feeding mechanism of reciprocal hatred and harm between Israelis and Palestinians.

I have no desire to argue with it. I don't approve of the intifadeh and I have no interest in trying to justify it. I am interested in trying to strip away the polarization that demands that everything be the fault of one side or the other and come to some sort of understanding of how things got to this point. I feel that way because I'm quite convinced that when an issue this complicated is reduced to such simplistic bipolar terms, it is almost certain that both extremes are simply wrong. I can understand how those in the thick of the conflict can easily place passion above reason and refuse to acknowledge that there are two sides to the problem. I see no reason why we have to do the same on this thread.
