Dutch elm disease is another one of those things that we did to ourselves, like white pine blister rust and chestnut blight. We haven't seen anything yet. Wait until all this imported wood starts showing up at Lowe's. Imported wood is popular these days since do-gooders have run domestic production out by frivolous environmental lawsuits.

Your best resource for local disease is your county agent, as I'm sure you're aware. Sprouting from roots is a tough problem.
