I have never seen the justification for government trying to control adult behavior other than through the criminal law. Why should my tax dollars be spent trying to persuade people not to do something it's legal for them to do? They shouldn't.

Of course, I recognize the argument that smoking costs me more tax dollars in the need to pay for medicare and medicaid for treatment of smokers. At which point, the answer, of course, is that we shouldn't be paying for that in the first place.

It's only because goverment goes far beyond its legitimate functions in some areas that it feels the need to control the lawful behavior of citizens.

The Minutemen wouldn't have stood for it for an instant.
