Economy and environment screwed up long before bush. I agree that he has not done a satisfactory job on either. The push to war is really a last push to an acceptable peace. I give you and the democrats credit for waking up neo-con hawks to the need for Congressional and UN sanction of the war. If saddam dances during inspections, Security council will endorse military action. Once this become clear to saddam perhaps he backs down. Once it becomes clear to other iraqi leaders they may take action. If all fails, will you then support a UN sanctioned removal of saddams regime? mike

PS
I resisted the vietnam war and got saved by the bell by the lottery #242. Otherwise, after grad school, i would have had to make the choice as to whether to go to (a) vietnam, (b)canada, or (c)jail. To this day i cannot say what i would have done in the end.
So i dont take war lightly. I dont accept, as you sometimes charge, everything bush says at face value. I do believe we are in a situation akin to Germany in 1933 when germany to Europe was similar to iraq to the mideast in terms of power. With Saddam the equalizer is WMD. Saddam w nukes will be as strong in the mideast as Germany was in europe in 1939. Thats one-three years off in my estimation. Thats why i support this high stakes game now going on. mike
