Baptism is supposed to free one from the necessity of serious sin, certainly. However,it is true that there is supposed to remain a certain moral weakness, which only sanctifying grace can overcome, so it is likely that one will succumb to venial sin.

I think you have put your finger on a real problem, and that it has a lot to do with the somewhat latitudinarian attitude about subjects like sex in some Catholic countries, even while maintaining piety. The weakness that leads to indiscretion is accepted (perhaps too leniently), but there is respect for the stricter standard, acknowledging that there is much harm that is caused through indiscretion.......
