-- You can think of optics as being in the low volume discrete components phase
--- Fiber optics is B2B and semis are almost direct to consumer

Most interesting, thanks!

Though I'm not sure I follow all the way to your conclusion. Are you saying that because optics is a low volume biz, the efficiency of high-volume (and the consolidation that would require) isn't needed yet?

--- They have guts alright, but that may not be enough

I agree.

-- They have to cut their bleed, or they will have to get

I donno... yes they'll need to cut their bleed, or get more equity, OR just get more sales, or all three -- in the short run.

But in the long run the only important thing is sales -- and the mystery is when the upside returns how big will it be? it might be enough to offset a lot of dilution, esp if BKHM remains one of the last optics component players left standing. BKHMs problem seems to be that the upside could be a long way off --
