I cannot explain to you why you should not criticize someone for being rude. I have no objection to your doing so. I've been known to call rudeness to people's attention. Surely you haven't missed that.

"Courteous out of courtesy" was, perhaps, a bit, er, flip. Perhaps cordiality or geniality would be better.
