Paul, I think the market will have to overlook some warnings and estimate cuts in the near future. 3M has been holding up the DJIA for a long time, so their comments quoted by briefing.com are interesting.

'15:35 ET 3M Company has seen "meaningful impact" from West Coast lockout (MMM) 113.59 +2.71: Reuters reports that MMM says it has seen a "meaningful impact" from the lockout that has shut down West Coast ports and it is trying to encourage a settlement; CEO James McNerney did not quantify the impact of the lockout, but said it had affected "a wide range of products in Asia."

I think this will be true for a lot of companies ... so economic fundamentals aren't looking any better at the moment - at least for the short term !
