I've hit a lot of things with a .223 and typically the wound channel is tight even in ground hogs......but the bullet will fragment explosively from about 150 yards and under...after that it seems to expand and often will not exit ground hogs.

My 22/250 would repeat that behavior for an additional 100 yards.

I agree that blunt trauma from the hydrostatic shock would have bruised organs, but I would not suspect the rupturing.
