Hi Pearly_Button; Re "Iraq is just a smoke screen."

You got that right.

The GOP raked Clinton over the coals for several years. If they lose control of Congress they're looking at the same thing, but with the additional impetus that the whole country is outraged by the self dealing by management in publicly traded companies.

So I'm guessing that it's mostly about the elections, and will decrease afterwards. There was already hints in Bush's speech last night that inspections are going to be sufficient for Iraq.

But in any case, the Administration has been lying when they suggest that Iraq would be easy to kick over and rebuild. I don't think it's possible for the military to be dragooned into that kind of quagmire.

There are few people looking at this with a balanced viewpoint. The vast majority seems to be convinced that the Republicans are evil incarnate and the Democrats are angels, or vice versa. Either form of blindness provides zero predictive utility.

Thomas White, Secretary of the Army

Pearly, I am not going to chase it down, but I read recently that these charges against White had turned out to be bogus.
