<<...The first thing is to stop making things worse. That's what Junior is doing. Just about anyone could make it better right now. Really the premise is wrong though, if Gore were President I really think we wouldn't be in this kind of dire circumstance. I don't think Gore would have squandered the sympathy of the world just as he wouldn't have squandered the surplus...>>

TP: Gore would also have a much better Economic Team -- It's hard to find one more incompetent than the Bush Crew responsible for the economy (even the hardline conservatives want them to go). I also feel Gore would not be HYPER-focussing on Iraq and failing to CAREFULLY EXAMINE the unintended consequences of a unilateral pre-emptive strike in The Middle East.

Finally, you got one right TP. Thanks for acknowledging that President Bush is stopping what Clinton had started. Didn't think you had it in you. I'm proud of you!

Atta boy, TP!

Oh brother, like the crocodile tears and well wishes of the "world" are of any use at all. We are under attack by terrorists and we are supposed to defend ourselves with kleenex. Give me a break.

RE: just as he wouldn't have squandered the surplus.

The surplus never was. The 1990's saw the largest peacetime run-up of national debt in the history of our nation. The total US debt grew twice as fast as the economy. The entire 1990's boom was debt driven, and the the debt was very unproductive. It will take a few years for this problem to correct itself, and there is nothing that any president can do after the fact.

Maube, maybe not. The point is he's not in office, so wondering what could have been is a waste of time.
