The US needs a good dose of reality. We are heavily indebted consumers. We need to quit buying the latest toy, get off the couch (or way from the PC) and start working harder and saving money. The resulting drop in consumer spending will result in short-term economic decline, but will establish a base for long-term growth. It is silly to think that optimistic pep talks will solve the fiscal mess that we are in. Getting individuals and companies to raise debt levels will only "oil" the economy for a short time, and then leave us with even more debt to try and manage. Any financial counselor will tell you that you can not borrow you way out of a debt mess.

We could be facing years of stagnant economy and a black could of deflation is looming over the horizon. The party is over, and it is time to pay the piper. Get your head out of the sand.
