There is a lot of latitude between necessary and absolutely necessary.

My neighbor thinks it's necessary to mow your lawn every week but my husband disagrees. They both agree that it's absolutely necessary to breathe.

Canada teams up with Russia and China and attacks the US, then I doubt if there would be protests in the street

You don't know our "Hard Left," zonder. There would be an article in the "Nation" blaming the attack on the Bush Administration. And demanding that we stop annoying these countries and settle their grievances with us by negotiation.
