Here's another climate example of something we had nothing to do with : the Tambora volcano

The 1815 eruption of Tambora caused the "Year without a Summer." Daily minimum temperatures were abnormally low in the northern hemisphere from late spring to early autumn. Famine was widespread because of crop failures.

It's understandable that climatology is a pretty new field of study since the analysis of things like ice cores uses some fairly leading edge analytical chemistry. There's an immense amount we can learn.
