United Technologies increases share buyback
Wednesday October 9, 4:58 pm ET

HARTFORD, Conn., Oct 9 (Reuters) - United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX - News), which makes building systems and aerospace products under names like Otis and Carrier, on Tuesday said it expects its total 2002 share buybacks to be larger than expected.
Hartford, Connecticut-based United expects share repurchases this year to total $700 million, $100 million more than previous guidance.

The company also said its board has authorized a buyback program of up to 30 million shares of stock, worth about $1.5 billion at current share prices.

United said the new authorization replaces a previous share repurchase authority from the board.

Shares in the company closed down 4.1 percent at $49.19 on the New York Stock Exchange
