Ted,

First hand experience is often considered invaluable when evaluating a situation, particularly an event as unique as war.

That's arguing something different from what I was saying. The argument some are making is that if someone wore a uniform during conflict, he should be immune to criticism of their arguments (however off the wall) on anything war related.

When it comes to fighting a war, making war plans, assessing US capabilities vs. adversaries, making predictions on outcome, duration, cost, all call for experts in the field with experience. Experience in fields I outlined. I am not sure how the experience of being in a trench, being shot at, or being a shrink for the military helps in making these assessments.

The decision whether to go to war or not belongs to the US President and Congress.

Just because they don't agree with your opinion does not mean you should discount out of hand. After all, by listening to them, you might learn something.

If you read my posts carefully, you would know that I am not an enthusiastic supporter of the war on Iraq. But, if anything, the shallow, inconsistent, emotional arguments of the left wingers make me question my opposition to the war on Iraq. My gut feeling is that pre-emptive war on Iraq is not a good thing. But I see people I respect support Bush (with different level of enthusiasm), and the opponents being the "usual suspects" (various gruppings of nutcases), using weak arguments that are based not on logic or principle, but on emotion, self serving politics, knee jerk reactions. Listening to an idiot like your congressman makes me, if anything, move closer to Bush's opinion than the opposition's.

Joe

PS: After hearing from Barbra (sic), all that I am missing now to complete the picture is to hear from the Baldwin brothers. BTW, is Alec in living in exile, as promised, or does he claim that being kicked out the house by Kim Basinger enough to fulfil the pre-election promise.
