One of the major Kurdish party leaders says we have assured them that we will attack: >>Talibani: US will topple Saddam beginning of 2003, within one week
Iraq-USA, Politics, 10/10/2002

The leader of the Kurdistani National Federation party Jalal al- Talibani said he had understood from the Americans that the military attack against Iraq will be by the beginning of next year, and that the American officials informed him they are able to topple the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein regime within one or two weeks and that their delay in starting the operation is because they are discussing the aftermath of the Saddam Hussein phase.

In a statement to the London- based al-Hayat daily issued in London on Wednesday, Talibani stressed that Iran is ready to carry out a role similar to that it had played in Afghanistan when it backed the Northern coalition, in case the Americans permit it to do so.

He indicated the importance of the plenary meeting for the Iraqi opposition which is due in Brussels on October 28 with the participation of 150 representatives.

Replying to a question of elements of concern in Syria, Iran, and Turkey on that striking Iraq means its partition and the foundation of a Kurdish state and the possibility of creating disorder in Iraq, Talibani said "I confirm that Iraq will not be divided and not body wants to partition it. The Kurds do not want a Kurdish state, rather an Iraqi, democratic and federal parliament in which they can have their role and rights."

As for the expected "disorder" in Iraq because of the attack, Talibani noted that this might happen if an invasion will take place without support from the Iraqi people. But if an understanding is reached with the Iraqi people, then this opposition will be able to control the Iraqi public, to prevent a civil war and a state of unrest.<<

He said the U.S. priorities in the Middle East should be putting Middle East peace talks back on track, ensuring that Iran continues to move toward reform, helping Afghanistan (news - web sites) and other central Asian states, patching up relations with Arab states and reopening dialogue with the people of the region.

How does he think we should put the Middle peace talks back on track, when SA and Iran and Iraq are openly funding the conflict? Gonna set up negotiatons with Hizbullah and Hamas?

A leader of another major Kurdish party says we have told them that attack is inevitable:>>Al-Hayat: Al-Barazani: changing the Iraqi regime is inevitable
Iraq, Politics, 10/9/2002

The leader of the Kurdistani Democratic Party, Masoud al- Barazani, said that the issue of the American attack against Iraq for changing the regime has become inevitable, however, it date and place has not been determined yet.

In a statement to the London- based al-Hayat daily issued on Tuesday, al-Barazani proposed the establishment of a democratic federal system in Iraq, denying the desire to establish a Kurdish state in northern Iraq.

Al- Barazani said:" we have explained our position in rejecting to partition Iraq to all neighboring states. He expressed his conviction that "our brothers in Syria are convinced of that position." Al- Barazani indicated that the current position is differ from that of 1991 when the Americans deceived the Iraqi people and permitted the Iraqi army to use tanks and planes during the "Intifada" (uprising) of the Kurdish people.

He said he asked for American guarantees to this effect during his meetings with important American officials in Europe.<<

If we are blowing smoke at the Kurds again, I won't vote Democrat but maybe for Ralph Nader.
