Actually, I am not asserting my "duties" as universal. I am asserting them as culture- bound and only approximating to objectivity, and as admitting of exceptions. I am merely saying that one has to square oneself with conscience to be morally responsible. (How many times have I explained this?)I am acknowledging that the final decision, when the matter does not rise to engage the law, is the individual's, and that iconoclasm may be correct, as in the abolitionist movement. I am merely saying that I have a right to bring up values when talking about life choices, and that I may legitimately appeal to conscience, assuming the relationship admits of such intimate talk.........
