Hi Poet....appreciate your thoughts as well. Have been researching narcissistic personality disorder a bit as it may be a factor in a situation we are dealing with... But have no idea of how often it comes up in people, or if it is a common trait, but latent....or what....

The two ways you indicated that might help to catch him/her are both tough if in fact this is the cause... public sneering, causing a frenzy; or publicly complimenting on a nice job ....both are equally tough to do....

And speaking of narcissism....I've wondered if this is the only problem Saddam might have as well, or if he has a whole bag of emotional problems on top of this....

What can professionals do to use this info to catch him? They can do two things: public sneering, in hopes that he'll get into an "I'll show them who's boss" frenzy and make a mistake

Or they can appeal to his narcissism in a positive way, publicly complimenting him on a job well done (in terms of his planning and accuracy) in hopes to calm him down so they can move in on him if they have him in their sights as a suspect.
