I think according to Mish, they don't have to keep it at the max pain price for success. They only have to get the price close enough to max pain so that they can hedge. Once they have hedged, the market can do whatever it wants.

They have NDX at 877 now--i had figured MaxPain to be 880. But how can they hold at that level for a week???Anyone?? Max

What makes you think they have to hold it for a week?
My version of max pain says any touch during expiry week is sufficient.

All the time premium has been sucked out and VIX VNN have dropped as well.

They can easily short here and let it drop.
Give me today and score up another max pain victory.
