LOUIS, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: EASI) received orders totaling $4.6 million from the U.S. Air Force for the production of Revetment kits. These current orders represent options exercised under a firm, fixed price contract that was awarded to the Company in April of this year on an expedited basis to address the urgent support requirements for heightened U.S. military operations in the Middle East. The Company expects to receive approximately $24 million over the life of the contract, according to Michael F. Shanahan, Sr., Chairman and CEO. The U.S. Air Force uses the metal revetment kit barriers to protect aircraft, equipment and personnel from small arms fire as well as shrapnel from heavy artillery and other munitions at remote air bases and installations located in hostile territory. "We continue to see emergency or expedited contract orders from our military as America's armed forces rapidly deploy around the globe," commented Shanahan. "We are well situated to take on additional contract work when called upon by our fighting forces as they defend our interests both at home and abroad." In the past six months, the Company has received $9.8 million in orders under this contract. The Air Force has indicated that Engineered Support may be required to double its production rate under this program to meet its current deployment plans. Engineered Support Systems, Inc. is a diversified supplier of high-tech, integrated military electronics, support equipment and logistics services for all branches of America's armed forces and certain foreign militaries. The Company also serves a variety of commercial customers. For additional information about Engineered Support Systems, please visit the Company's web site at www.engineeredsupport.com .
