IMPCO Signs Pact With Hino Motors Of Japan To Develop CNG Buses For Southeast Asian Market

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
CERRITOS, Calif. -- Impco Technologies Inc. (IMCO) signed a development contract with Hino Motors Ltd. (J.HNO) in a deal the company expects will yield sales of $2.5 million in the first year with $4 million to $5 million expected annually at peak production levels.
In a press release Tuesday, the fuel storage, delivery and electronic control systems company said it will develop and sell compressed natural gas, or CNG, fuel systems for a Hino J08C natural gas bus engine that will allow the busses to meet Euro II emission standards, and will develop a related fuel storage and delivery system.
The Tokyo-based engine maker plans to start production of the low emissions natural gas buses in 2004.
Impco and Hino plan to develop higher power versions of the engine or larger capacity bus applications after they introduce the CNG bus to the commercial market.
For its eight-month transition period ended Dec. 31, Impco reported revenue of $45.7 million.
For the fiscal year ended March 31, Hino had revenue of more than $7.1 billion and produced more than 65,000 diesel engines.
