Why is that absurd. He wanted letter carriers to spy on people on their routes. THEY REFUSED. He called for people to report any suspicious activity.

I don't have any idea who Ted Rall is, but an American citizen Jose Padilla sits in jail, without benefit of counsel because Ashcroft decided he was a threat to the US.
