Win, History is pretty clear on this one. Carter was the "Minister" who got brought in to do the legalities after the couple has decided to get married. Only in this case the Minister paid the Bride and groom. He got the publicity for a "done deal" that he was really never involved in.

No it's not clear, Bill. There are several versions. The one you quote here is simply the one that gives Carter the least credit.

Perhaps we should all just let Carter get his Nobel and move on to other things.
