If my child has an illness, I seek at least 3 independent studies that confirm the treatment option the doctors have chosen. I feel competent to review and cross check that data. If I were to use a scientific study in my work I would be negligent in my duties not to research it. When I make up lessons I cross check with at least 3 authorities- but usually many more, because I actually enjoy reviewing things. I find it entertaining. As for what I am competent to critique, I've been down that road on SI before- and I'd rather not get into my personal up to date curriculum vitae, and my professional qualifications. I have no desire to share that kind of information with you or anyone else, for any reason.
