More anecdotal evidence. Lots of noise across the street this morning. My neighbor's (looked OK to me) driveway being gouged up for a new one. They have two small kids and have just built a new garage/office/guesthouse out back. Talking to my neighbor he says happily, "We've never come close to getting into debt like this before. But rates are low!"

Now what happens if what is probably an adjustable-rate loan goes from maybe 5% to 8% or higher? What happens if his wife's home-decorating business loses customers?
