[There are] reports in the media that shots have been taken at 600 yards...That is pretty much the max. kill range of a .223 and an unlikely success except under range conditions. MSNBC has reported that the rifle in question is either a Colt AR-15...or a Ruger Mini-14... If these reports are true - and you're absolutely right about the effective range of the weapon - to me it rules out that he's using iron sights; he's almost certainly using a scope; and, it makes it very unlikely that he's firing from the vehicle unless at a dead stop, in my opinion. Knowing this - and if the media reports about the range of the shooting are correct - he's a damned good shot. As I said earlier, 250 yards is fairly easy to hit, but tough to be accurate at...but 600 yards, with that kind of precision is...intimidating. LPS5
