That's interesting. I was pointing out there is a distinction between American and Israeli interests, and you accuse me of devaluing Israeli life.

Not exactly. You said that Hamas didn't target Americans, and I replied that they have blown up quite a number of American citizens who happened to be in Israel. This doesn't seem to bother you.

What we need to differentiate is whether any sovereign government is harboring al-Qaida with complicity (as the Taliban government did in Afghanistan).

True, and we definitely have Hizbullah/Syrian cooperation in Southern Lebanon. Taking over Ein el Hilweh is not a surriptitious operation.

Then may I suggest the Bush administration clearly define what "terrorism" is and who the "terrorists" are so that there may be a more effective and consistent (meaning less hypocritical) effort in tackling this issue.

I agree on this point. This should not be a War on Terrorism -- which is only a tactic -- but a War on Islamism. The close coordination between Al Quaeda, The Muslim Brotherhood, PIJ, and Abu Sayef should be spelled out, as well as the looser links to Hizbullah and Hamas and Fatah. However, educating the public on this nest of snakes is not something the political process does well. The political process, even in the hands of a more articulate politician than GW Bush, needs bumper stickers.

asking for American blood to defend Israel's security is... not really kosher.

Nor does Israel want the blood of one American soldier. She just wants the same freedom to defend herself that America claims. It is American calls for "restraint, restraint" that are hurting Israeli deterrence.
