1. One of the joys of capitalism is that we can accumulate wealth. It may not be a pretty process but it seems to be the best economic system suitable for humans at this stage of our development. For this reason, I think we need to perceive that most of our income remains with us--at least at the federal income tax level. However, I see nothing wrong with your earlier idea of a tax on accumulated wealth.

2. I don't think a flat tax is possible either.

3. I did see Mr. Bush for a minute in one pose and realized and was struck by the fact that he does bear a slight resemblance to e a chimpanzee. He is fond of Mr. Reagan and Mr. Reagan was associated with Mr. Bonzo. Perhaps, there is a connection here.

I believe Mr. Bush's success as a politician results from his understanding of his audience and his understanding of his own limitations. The public wants to believe in the individual that has taken the oath of president and Mr Bush presents a believable image. Several times, I have read notes here that state that the writers finally can look at their president and believe him. I view Mr. Bush as a politician. He manipulates facts just as any politician does to suit his purpose. I remember Mr. Bush being interviewed next to his wife while sitting in two simple chairs. He joked about his habit of picking the wrong words and mispronouncing others. He did it in a pleasing folksy manner and he made me smile. It was brilliant.

We can discuss the fairness of his tactics as a politician. However, many voters will walk into a booth early next month with two opposing thoughts--(1) I really like the guy and (2) I think the economy is going down the drain. It is up to them to choose between image and reality.
