It's time critics and non-critics called things as they are, even slick propagandists such as Perry. The subversion of the lexicon is being done by the propagandists on the right, primarily, who avoid the following definition:

"A liberal was someone (usually under 30) perceived as standing foursquare for freedom, liberty and justice enshrined by the Founding Fathers, intent upon applying those precepts to a new American beginning"

Well, dummy, call those you criticize by the labels you think appropriate, don't subvert the language and then blame someone else, in an attempt to excuse your own confusion:

"the American left-of-center has been captured by radicals who are the worst sort of reactionaries."

Oddly enough, this was at the same time that Nazis began to insinuate themselves, courtesy of Bill Donavan, the Dulleses, Bill Casey and others bringing in the Gehlen group and 10,000 protected operatives into intel and many into the Republic Party, and were used to "battle communism" and maintain an increased DOD budget.
(See "The Beast Reawakens", Martin A. Lee)

"the national Democratic Party. And into its ranks seeped ragged remnants of the old, along with bustling activists of the new, leftist-radicalism."

Listen carefully to political discourse and news coverage, see if you can find any political leadership that call themselves "Liberal". What a joke:

"They call themselves liberals! "

Simple and traditional propaganda for anyone dim enough to swallow it and march off in some direction or another, attempting to create a composite strawman, to have something to shoot at.
