Yes, Israel and Hamas will fight a war in Gaza eventually. It's inevitable. However, Israel claims it has killed or arrested 98% of Hamas in the West Bank (though yesterday's suicide bombing was Hamas, so something is still functioning), and Hamas in Gaza is walled in, literally, so it is harder for them to wreak havoc on Israel. Israel can hope that Fatah beats Hamas, or at least that the two organizations wear each other down. An eruption now would suit Israel fine, as the Israelis expect an explosion in Gaza when the Americans go into Iraq.
