Ed,

I am a great shot....target....wing....handgun...you name it....been shooting since childhood....admitting that I've taken so much small game I can't count....I've used the .223 for years....and recently sold a mini14 and 2 Thompson Center rifles chambered for .223 and 22/250.

I'm pretty sure....that anything over 300 yards with a .233 out of a shorty carbine would leave the round in tact and not fragmented even if it is a traditional hollow point. The terminal velocity just isn't there. These reports are talking about fragments in some cases where the hits were less than 200 yards and I can accept that.

If you took an accurized version of the AR15 you could hit a human all day long at 500 yards.....with a good scope.

I've had .223 not exit a ground hog at 150 yards with a 53gr match hollow point.

I have gotten a new respect for .223 for close range work. I wish I hadn't.

Shootie
