vt - re:cycles.
Many longwavers have the end of the current secular bear (winter) wave ending 2014 +or - 48 months.
Others add that we are 2 Kitchin cycles (3-4 years, sometimes called Presidential Cycle) from the end. Pointing towards 2008-2010.
I also think this will end sooner, hence your 2006.
IMHO, there will be, as in the 70ies, a huge trading range yet to be set, which could very well extend till 2018. In that way, I can accept your parallel with the 70ies-80ies.
But that period was inflationary growth, and the current period, AFAIK, is better described as a deflationary recession.
(Ending IMHO with the failure of the current monetary/economic system and definition of new values).

Unclear shorter term: Bob Bronson has compelling evidence of a meltdown to occur this quarter.
