Back in 1965 when communists were seen as the great enemy of civilization, Indonesia (including Bali) experienced one of the most horrible massacres of the century. Between 500,000 and 1 million people were slaughtered as communists or communist supporters in 6 months with covert US support. So this recent act of terrorism -- horrible as it is -- is just small potatoes compared to what happened there 37 years ago with US encouragement.
