Why inappropriate ?

I mean in the sense of calling a press conference about this one issue.

I am basing my remarks on my understanding of the psychological profiles of thrill killers.

They do watch the news media. David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon, said he did it so he would be as famous as Lennon. John Hinkley, the man who shot Ronald Reagan, did it to impress actress Jodie Foster, whom he admired.

If the president called a press conference about a killer that would stroke their egos, which is a very bad thing to do, and encourage more thrill killers who seek their moment of fame.
