I'm not talking about the crazies. Almost impossible to stop those guys before they kill a whole load of people.

In New England, before you are allowed a license to hunt, you have to attend a hunters safety course. I went to one of those and was happy with the results. Fatalities in hunting (in New England) are far below skiing accidents in the area for example.

Likewise, gun ownership should have some responsibility associated with it. Training courses of when and when not to use a firearm to settle a dispute would be of use. I am sure lives could be saved this way. For example I remember reading in a local USA newspaper how a guy got rejected by his girlfriend and took up with his best friend. He went upstairs, loaded up his 357 and took care of the problem (in a very temporary sense) by killing them both. Not a solution and some training can prevent these circumstances imho.
