I can’t see how inspectors can solve the problem. Even now, under a direct threat of war, Saddam argues endlessly about what they can or cannot see. It will never work against a person who is determined to get nukes. He will find a way to sabotage and to mislead them. Like I said, the inspections didn’t stop North Korea from getting nukes.

Saddam seems to be a lot like Stalin – brutal, paranoid, and effective at maintaining and increasing his own power.

If he has nukes now, he may use them. If he doesn’t, there is no doubt in my mind that he will do all he can to obtain them. When he gets them, he’ll use them as leverage to blackmail us. He’ll fulfill the promise he made as a young man – to unite all Arabs under one flag (obviously, weather they like it or not).
