Didn't I read something (laast year) about Lott backing the building of another aircraft carrier in his district that the Navy and Pentagon didn't want? Rumsfield was looking for small crafts with faster strike capability while Lott is behind building another huge aircraft carrier in his district.

If so , this doesn't show a strong interest in military support to get leaner, stronger etc.
