>> When you invade a country, or bomb a whole town, you kill innocent people, thereby creating martyrs from the dead and wannabe martyrs from their parents, husbands, etc....Just think about it - whether or not you like your current president, how would you think about another country setting up a military occupation in your own country?<<

It's a shame there's no Japanese here on the thread to tell us. I haven't noticed a lot of martyrs in Germany, either.

Again, Iraq has not been hostile in the past ten years and it is strange to assume that "we" now have to be involved.

No? It's broken all its armistice agreements, pursued WMDs, proclaimed its victory in the Gulf War and its open emnity to the US, hopped on the Islamist train, trained Islamist terrorists, poured gasoline on the Israeli/Pal conflict, worked tirelessly (and successfully) to destroy the sanctions regime, attempted to kill Bush 41, and did I mention that they may have nukes any day now?

If this is "not hostile" G-d spare us from real enemies. Seriously, what do you think the situation in the Gulf will be like once Saddam has nukes?

Were I living in Iraq, I would welcome the Americans with open arms!!

And I'd wager that most Iraqis will feel just this way as soon as Saddam and his clan have been overthrown.

Remember that Saddam and his officers peppered their troops with lies (in addition to peppering the area behind them with mines to prevent their retreat) about American cruelty should they surrender during Desert Storm..

We captured TENS OF THOUSANDS of Iraqis, and they quickly recognized that Americans were the vicious animals they'd been told we were... Don't even think that those "realizations" didn't permeate Baghdad when those prisoners were repatriated.
