I watched various Muslim leaders on the talking head shows after the attacks, and the condemnations, if at all, were pitiful and weak. Perhaps Muslim leaders finally got the message and belatedly put out a few statements, but some Muslim leaders, such as Yasser Arafat, condemn terrorism even as they are promoting it. Other Arab leaders appear to give us lip service while knowingly harboring terrorists in their countries. Saudis are openly raising money for the families of sucicide bombers.

Along the lines of Mindmeld's point, do you have any doubt that if we were not meddling in the Mideast (amorally or morally), and that if Israel was not there as the ever present foil for Arab hatred, that these Arab countries would not be busy shooting each other up within one month's time? In my opinion, Afghanistan, with its continual tribal warfare, is a just a microcosm of larger country politics in a region only held in check by the U.S. and other outside powers.

OT:

Tom, Upon looking at your links, I see that there was more widespread condemnation from the Muslim world of September 11th than I was aware of. I suspect some of the so called Muslim "representatives" on some of the talking head shows may have been chosen for controversy and ratings.

THe Muslim leaders condemn 9/11 on the one hand and then fund Islamic extremists on the others. I just don't believe in their sincerity. Another thing, the leaders know they HAVE to condemn the killings, otherwise they lose their precious U.S. aid. The Muslim people in the street had no such constraints and look how they cheered as our people are slaughtered.

The U.S. people in the street condemn both Israel and Palestine for the senseless murders on both sides. The Middle East needs to reconsider their entire culture. I see no brilliance there.

As usual, you ignore the difference in the public and private utterances of many Arab leaders. If you want to support the Jihad, go ahead, just be ready to suffer the consequences.
