The best long term thing we could ever do would be to pull out of the Middle East, our men and our money.

There would be widespread chaos and Hussain would have a field day with all of the weaker nations around him. Then we could spend our money on fuel cell technology to rid ourselves oil dependence. Then the Muslims can have their Islamic tyrannical state and get what they want, which seems to be the absence of democracy. Go for it.

BTW, I was just watching CNN right now and they were talking about how Osama Bin Laden posters were extraordinarily popular in the Middle East. Yeah, Tom, great religion and SMART people. Islam is such a peaceful religion. ROTFLMAO! Everyone over there knows what would happen if Osama was in charge, an Islamic state where women have no rights just like in Afghanistan. Yet all the Muslims still hero worship him. I think there has been some largescale brainwashing going on over there and Islam has been the theme.

<<I do find it interesting that George H Bush did not want to oust Saddam and create a power vacuum in Iraq.>>

There was a coalition remember? Bush Sr abided by the guidlines the international coalition had put forth.

<< If the U.S. does go in and conquer Iraq, the subsequent nation building and heightened tensions with Arabian countries would seem to pose mind-boggling challenges. >>

It is clear that triaging and treating the injured, catolouging the dead, and cleaning up a contaminated major US city after a gas or nuclear attack would also seem to pose mind-boggling challenges.
