I agree with you that getting rid of trade barriers is a good thing, in general.

On the other hand, I don't have to worry about losing my job to an overseas worker.

Sorry for not having a more thoughtful response to your long and thoughtful post. I think you're right, but I also see that there are many competing arguments which are also right, and unfortunately the only place to resolve this issue is in Congress.

And you know Congress. They have to try to be all things to all men and make compromises.

They are not going to put US farmers out of work because children are starving in Africa. The solution they will see is sending money to Africa.

When you look at US humanitarian aid, does that include the amount spent by private charities? Which are also subsidized, because charitable contributions are tax-deductible. If we give once with private dollars, do we have to give twice with public dollars?
