years ago, i was in yugoslavia and had the same experience. they would say nixon good. sometimes i asked why they felt that way. often they said u s built the road. but, the germans built the road. they smiled condescendingly at me- and said something like the u s was the one really behind it which funded it and made the decision. a few of the above thought i, as an american, must live like charles manson- and they meant it as a compliment.
