Will China Unicom be the first carrier to buy phones with the MSM 6300 chipset inside? It seems that they could address any coverage issues they may have on their own networks (GSM+CDMA), and maybe also allow roaming of CDMA customers onto China Mobile as needed.

Also, China Mobile might get a lot more interested in offering phones that would allow existing GSM customers to roam onto CHU's CDMA network. Why not cover all bases?

The existing lines between networks get very blurred with this chip. It gives everybody an opportunity to watch and see which kind of service their customers are choosing, without having to guess ahead of time. Just build out network capacity in whatever tech is seeing the most demand.

Share ownership of the networks. Offer techno-neutral handsets. Compete on services.

It could migrate to that in the U.S. too.
