To: zonder who wrote (52191 ) 10/15/2002 12:08:23 PM From: Hawkmoon Respond to of 281500 That's funny. I didn't expect you to admit it :) Why?? When I'm wrong, I'm wrong... Unlike some others out here who refuse to TRULY ANALYZE the influences of Regional Politics, I always am willing to admit when I feel that the other party has displayed more compelling logic than my own. And for the record, once again... People perceive me as some kind of Israel-phile and I'm not... (at least not to the point where I think they "do no wrong").. I look at Israel from the perspective of a nation/state who will do what they feel they have to do in order to guarantee their continued survival. I fully believe, on the context of the 1967 agression by Jordan, Syria, and Egypt, that Israel has the ABSOLUTE MORAL RIGHT of nations to occupy and annex the Golan, West Bank, and had they wanted, the Sinai. The fact that they didn't kick out all of the Jordanians from the West Bank (because they were Jordanians, not Palestinians then) is a credit to them, just as it is a discredit to Jordan that they took so long to make peace with Israel and abandoned the West Bank population to Arafat. Just as it is a discredit that Syria is more willing to pursue their goal of "greater Syria" by occupying and controlling Lebanon, protecting the Hezbollah in the south, and continuing their aggressive rhetoric with Israel, instead of making peace. Israel is a democracy folks... They have liberals, moderates, and reactionaries... Just as we have them here in the US. And Israeli politics/policies will(MUST) follow the desire of the overall population. There was SO MUCH sympathy for the Palestinian cause in Israel back in late '80s until Arafat sided with Saddam Hussein (who unjustifiably flung missiles against Israel). That support of Saddam TRULY HURT the cause of the Palestinians in the eyes of the world and even in Saudi Arabia (where many were ejected from the country). And then Arafat had a hell of a deal handed to him (95% of the West Bank and Gaza), but it wasn't good enough... So he incited "intifada" instead of taking what he could and then negotiating for more later... (bird in hand is worth two in the bush??).. So again.. the Palestinians have suffered.. As have the Israelis. The bottom line is that the Arafat has led the Palestinians to believe they will be handed everything they want if they only are willing to sacrifice their blood and their children as martyrs for the cause... And the result is that they have LESS NOW, than they had before... And the Israelis are not the only power in the region who have beaten up on the Palestinians when Arafat has tried to use his power in order to force demands upon another leader... King Hussein unleashed his forces upon the refugee camps in Jordan when Arafat attempted to wage a coup against him... Again... it's Arafat that is the problem... He wants to rule his own powerful nation/state... to be a strong military power in the region... He's NEVER truly been interested in what his people needed, or wanted... Namely Economic Security.... So if that makes me an Israeli-phile, so be it... I call it facing facts... Hawk
