I'd suspect that law enforcement doesn't want to play too many of their cards in public. There should be considerable survielance available (note the mom beating in the news a few weeks ago.) It all takes time, and there are probably only three or four places they have tape (gas stations, large strip/shopping malls.)

I bet most folks driving a white van/SUV/truck in the DC area want to get rid of theirs, though.

I drove from Arlington to Manassas today and saw three white vans pulled over. I imagine that must be getting annoying for them. OTOH, I saw at least forty that weren't pulled over. And the parking lot across the street from the place I had lunch had another forty parked in it. I don't know what business they were from. I wondered if the people who usually drive those vans were using their personal cars instead given the attention that white vans draw.
