Lucent set to announce 4Q 2002 earnings report next Wednesday, October 23 @ 8:20 AM ET. Even though they've warned back on September 13 that things will not be good and the market knows that (stock closed at $1.65 the day before that warning and within four trading days dropped to below a buck, eventually hitting an all time intraday low of 55c last Friday while closing at an all time low of 58c that day)... what do you think will happen to the stock price next Wednesday? UP or DOWN or NEUTRAL?

Saw an interesting article by writer Emma Moody of Bloomberg News in local newspaper's business page this morning that said LUCENT might be out of cash as early as 15 months from now. Said CIBC World Market analyst Steve Kamman figures it could be even earlier. Said Wachovia Securities' Stephen Koffler forecast a "dangerously low" cash level within a year.

CEO Russo denies that ... quoted as saying "We have more than sufficient liquidity to fund operations."

Lucent says they intend to return to profitability, before certain costs, with quarterly sales of $2.5 billion at some point in fiscal 2003 (fiscal 2003 ends on September 30, 2003).

Anyone see that Bloomberg article?

LUCENT's 30 day trading average now at $1.074
