Yes, war is risky business, but our lack of success in capturing/killing bin Laden hasn't seemed to have hurt the Republican cause or Bush's approval rating.

Regarding Kerry: I suspect he will need to bide his time for a few years until Hillary and Al run their courses first.

Two things will hurt the GOP medium- and long-term: (1) the changing demographics of the U.S. population and the Republicans' inability to attract minorities (keep a close watch on what happens in Texas on Nov. 5); (2) backlash from what happens when ultra-right-wingers are put in positions of power and start to push their agendas. (Interesting example locally ... where I live ... in which ultra-right-wingers took control of a local health board and then sought to have federal Title X funds denied in order to terminate distribution of the birth-control pill to needy females.)
